I am a Bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor Psychologist serving the Washington, DC metropolitan area (License #0701004873 Exp. 06/30/2012).  I believe my own personal journey as well as my professional intuition are the main skills I possess to help people improve their lives. I work with individuals, couples, families and groups from different backgrounds and situations, helping them not only to solve problems but to have more fulfilling lives.

I have a Master's degree in Professional Counseling Psychology from Argosy University in Washington, DC, a Bachelors’ Degree in Communications from University of Piura, Peru, and a vast experience in social services.  I belief in long-life learning. Therefore, after graduating, I continued my clinical training by becoming a fellow at the Washington DC Psychoanalytic Institute and pursuing the Trauma Certificate Program at the Institute for Advance Psychotherapy Training and Education, Inc. in Maryland. I have also completed the PAIRS Relationship Mastery Program, a couple’s marriage enrichment class and continue to deepen my understanding of attachment theory, Imago concepts and Emotionally Focus Therapy to better help couples and people with relationship problems. I am presently pursuing the Internal Family Systems Model training and attend the International Academy of Eating Disorders Conference every year. I do this hand to hand to continue to be updated with the latest research on neurobiology and the integrated brain.

I focus my studies on the impact of healthy relationships in our mental health and general wellbeing, the role of grief, loss and trauma in our lives, how to better manage life transitions while dealing with anxiety and depression, and how to develop a healthy relationship with food and our bodies.  It is my passion to write and present workshops since it is the best way to share with more people.

My style is distinctive because I adjust my approach and treatment modalities to your needs and not the opposite. Most professionals use a specific therapeutic method for most of their clients. I start off from believing that every person is unique and every situation equally exclusive. Therefore, a particular modality or a combination of techniques will be the best fit for each client. I feel comfortable integrating a variety of therapeutic techniques into my treatment plans, from cognitive-behavioral techniques to psychodynamic insight oriented interpretation. I also try to offer my clients several options (short-term and long-term options) and discuss with them what best suit their needs in the moment.

In addition to my private practice, I am part of the Women’s Center professional team, a 30-year organization with a clinical staff of over 100 therapists,  and the Wendt Center, center for the healing of grief and loss in DC.  And, I offer seminars, psychoeducational workshops, and support groups about different topics for various local organizations. Contact me if you would like to find out more.
