Jonathan Miller, LGPC

During our lifetimes it is common for each one of us to experience life changes, crisis, and temporary or ongoing painful moments. You may be facing difficulty with your daily tasks, spouse or partner, other family members or friends, having difficulty with school, competition, or challenges with your boss or work colleagues. It is possible that you are even stuck in your own head! The good news is that I am here to unpack it all with you, and importantly, help you create the positive change you desire in your life.

I utilize the vast experiences I have had in the business world, higher education, and the counseling profession to build a foundation with clients that will allow us to explore relationships, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, life transitions and grief. My supportive and nonjudgmental approach creates an atmosphere of comfort for clients to discuss a variety of these difficult issues and topics. I engage with my client’s full range of concerns and provide the appropriate resources to maximize and facilitate your healing and/or growth.

My professional experiences in higher education working in Accessibility Services inform my work with individuals who identify with having learning disabilities, ADHD, depression, anxiety, TBI/concussion and Crohn’s disease, Lyme’s disease, and POTS, amongst other chronic or long-term medical conditions. This work in combination with my experience working clinically at Virginia Hospital Center, has created my familiarity with treating co-existing medical and psychological conditions from a holistic perspective.

My personal experience working through multiple years of post-concussive issues inform the explorative and growth-oriented work I engage in with clients. We will explore the subjects and issues you bring forth through a psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral (CBT), humanistic (person-centered) and solutions-focused lens. This means that depending on the issues raised, we may unpack the past to create a more pleasant future. At the same time, we will focus on the “here and now,” and develop solutions to make the immediate changes you are looking for.

Specialization in College Student Development

Jonathan also offers specialized consulting/coaching for college students (community college, trade school, 4-year institutions) looking to build the necessary skills and habits to succeed academically and socially under the demands of higher education. Jonathan has helped numerous college students with academic challenges reshape their academic experience.

During our sessions together, students will strengthen important academic skills such as task initiation, time management, calendar development, prioritization, cognitive flexibility, self-regulation, and other general organization skills. Jonathan will meet student needs with regard to scope and frequency. Meeting once or twice a week during the full semester is recommended to turn these skills into lifelong habits that go beyond the classroom.
