Lindsay King, NCC, LPC

Hi, I’m Lindsay King, a creative, compassionate counselor (LPC) with over 20 years of experience counseling kids, caregivers, & communities to help them heal, grow, and thrive.  I use DBT skills training and expressive therapies to encourage the healing process, promoting lasting change. Are you and your child/teen facing mental health challenges, stress, anxiety, change, or grief? Would you like to help your child improve their communication, coping, or focusing skills? Do you want an improved relationship with your child/teen? I’d love to help you and your family set goals, process stress, and develop skills to last a lifetime.

My Therapeutic Approach

Research shows expressive therapies engage young children and teens to participate in interventions (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9856881/). Art therapies were adaptable during the pandemic with the transition to remote tele-health, producing even faster results on issues like anxiety and depression within children and adolescents, as reported in one study (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9029313/#B4-children-09-00467). DBT-C (DBT skills training for children) is a burgeoning area that is working hard to gather research currently. According to a few promising studies, however, DBT-C demonstrated effectiveness in helping kids regulate their emotions, tolerate distress, and accept difficult situations (https://www.choosingtherapy.com/dialectical-behavior-therapy/). Results were even better when facilitated with parenting and family training, and when integrated with expressive arts, and therapy games.

I meet with kids, teens, parents, and families, via Zoom, working on issues like family conflict, child/teen transitions, grief, ADHD, mild ASD, and school stress. Through evidence-based therapy practices including mindfulness-based CBT, DBT-informed skills training, and creative and expressive therapies; I help children/teens calm themselves, process their thoughts and feelings, and identify challenges. Then, they can choose skills to effectively cope with life stressors and big feelings. I also work with parents/caregiver to learn the same skills in order to generalize skills to the family system.

Time and again, I’ve seen this process help resolve the unique challenges kids and families face. I’ll provide you impartial, authentic, and compassionate care as you journey toward your goals. Please contact me for a free consultation to get started today!
